How to handle RAID status "File System Error"?

[Description]

The NVR cannot record and the RAID status of a volume shows “File system error.”

[Root Cause]

1. The size of the volume is over limit.
The maximum size of a volume on NVRmini2/solo/solo plus is 16 TB. This is the limitation of a 32 bit system architecture. Titan NVR (firmware 1.7 and above) and Crystal NVR (firmware 3.0 and above) don't have this limitation.

2. There are more than one faulty HDDs in the RAID volume. The RAID has lost the fault tolerance ability, and all its data has been lost. When this happens the recording will be stopped, and there will be no way to recover the video data. For example: 

• A RAID 5 or RAID 1 volume will become “file system error” when two disks failed.
• A RAID 0 volume will become “file system error” immediately even only one disk failed.

[Solution]

1. Please make sure the volume size is smaller than 16 TB per volume for NVRmini2/Solo/Solo plus.

2. Since the video data cannot be recovered, the only way to rebuild the RAID is to replace faulty HDDs and create a new volume. Follow below steps to rebuild RAID volume:

Step 1: Open Internet Explorer, Windows Chrome or Mac Safari and login to the NVR web page.

Step 2: Find the failed HDDs. Please refer to the Wiki How to check the HDD health? to check which HDD is faulty.

Step 3: Shut down NVR, remove the faulty HDDs and insert the new HDDs.

Step 4: Power on the NVR. Click RAID & File System / RAID Management then click the Delete tab. Click "Delete" to delete the faulty volume which shows "File system error".

Step 5: From the config catalog, click the RAID & File System / RAID Management / Create tab. Select the disks you want to create a new volume then move them to right hand side then click "Create" button.

Step 6: Check "Yes, I want to create a volume with those disk(s)" to create a volume.

Step 7: NVR will start to format the volume and build RAID for it. Once the format progress finished, the volume will be created completed.
