Description
The main purpose for this article is to show you on how to check the network condition on responding any requests by using ping command.
Index
1. Wireless network
2. Router/Switch performance issue
2-1. Troubleshooting
2-1-1. Connect a PC to the target IP camera same LAN and run ping command
2-1-2. Go to upper level switch and ping IP camera
2-1-3. Repeat process 2-1-2 on more upper level switch
2-1-4. Continue process 2-1-2 until reached NVR same LAN
2-2. Consult with IT technician
Solution
With good network condition, the ping responding time for the ping would be less than 1 ms. If you've been seeing the ping responding time larger than 1x ms:
1. A wireless network connection might be using. If it is not necessary, please make sure wired LAN ports are using for NVR also all the cameras. Otherwise, please try to improve the wireless network environment performance by consulting with your IT technician.
2. There might have Router/Switch performance issue happening. To investigate and improve this, please try:
2-1. If multiple Routers/Switches are cascading (as shown below), please try the procedures show below for troubleshooting.
2-1-1. Firstly, connect a PC to the same Local Area Network (LAN) as the Target IP camera is. You can refer to a picture shown below. Try to execute "ping" command on the PC to ping the Target IP camera IP address. Check if there is any lost ping packets, and also check the responding time to make sure the time responded is around few mini-seconds or under 1ms. The responding time cannot exceed 1x ms or higher. With any network ping responding issue happens, please re-adjust your network to get it overcome.
2-1-2. Secondly, connect the PC to upper level switch (as shown in below picture). Try again the "ping" command and try to overcome any possible network issue mentioned on point 2-1-1.
2-1-3. Thirdly, connect the PC again to more upper level switch (as shown in below picture). Try again the "ping" command and try to overcome any possible network issue mentioned on point 2-1-1.
2-1-4. Continue the procedures until you'd reached the same LAN as NVR is (as shown in below picture). Try again the "ping" command and try to overcome any possible network issue mentioned on point 2-1-1.
2-2. If procedures mentioned in 2-1 cannot overcome the network responding time issue, please consult with your IT technician then.
